House shields

Mrs. Cross has asked me, Mr. Kloenne, to be director of the House System next year. I have agreed and intend to give my very best effort to improve the culture and “connectedness” at St. Mary’s. I want this school to be a place of superior learning, great friendships, fond memories, and simply, fun. However, I can’t do this alone. I want students to have “voice and choice” in making this school what you want it to be. I’m asking for both parental and student support as we reshape the House System by keeping old traditions and building new ones.

The link below will take you to the ballot for our 2022-2023 house captains and school-wide representatives. All current freshmen, sophomores and juniors are eligible to run—no previous experience required. We are seeking one boy and one girl to lead each house (there are four houses), and one boy and one girl to lead the entire school. Click here to read the description of duties regarding school captain and house captain. For next year, all students will remain in the same Houses they are currently assigned.

After collecting input from several students, I seek to make sure we can create the best culture at St. Mary’s by asking each leadership candidate to submit a short written application by Friday, May 13, one week from today. If you did not receive the link to the Google Form, please contact Mr. Kloenne.

On Monday, May 16, there will be a student-wide vote and candidate interviews will be conducted by select faculty to identify our school-wide representatives and House captains for next year. The school-wide student vote will account for 50% of the candidate’s score and the written application/interview will account for 50% of the candidate’s score.

To clarify, everyone will vote for the school-wide representatives; only house members will vote for their respective house captains. Why the 50-50 scoring? There is much work to be done to improve the collective social, emotional well-being of all students and I seek student leaders who are willing to work hard to guide this school to a brighter future. With ten dedicated Pirate leaders, five young men and five young ladies, I hope we can move mountains. Please let me know if you have any questions and I greatly look forward to student applications. Thank you for your time and consideration.
