woman talking at podium

The situation in the Ukraine has captured the attention of the world, and the St. Mary's High School community is no exception. While the conflict is happening half a world away, it is close to our hearts as our Spanish teacher Svitlana Zorya-Benson is a native of Ukraine.

On Friday, Mrs. Benson spoke to student assembly about the conflict. The video of her talk is embedded below, or you can watch it on our YouTube channel. Thursday, she worked with the Cove crew on providing a Ukrainian meal for lunch. All proceeds from lunch that day—$1,064—will be donated to the Ukrainian people. Future lunches are being planned and in support of Mrs. Benson's suggestion to write letters to Ukrainian teens, our students will be writing letters during theology classes soon.

Mrs. Benson will work with the St. Mary's community to decide the best organization to support with all of the funds raised by the community. The school is accepting donations and as always, we ask for your prayers for Mrs. Benson's family and friends, as well as of the people of the Ukraine as they endure this conflict.
