St. Mary's Families,
About 20 hours have passed since our decision to suspend on-campus classes, and so far things are going according to plan.
An important clarification from my "school closure" message yesterday. Technically, St. Mary's is not "closing" on Monday. We are moving predominantly to online distance learning for the next two weeks. What we are seeing from many of the schools here in the Springs and up in Denver is they are closing, i.e. they are suspending classes altogether. Effectively they are taking a two-week spring break (in the case of Denver, it's a three-week spring break).
We have chosen to continue to operate in this distance learning fashion because we believe it is important to keep our students focused and moving forward. Parents, we ask for your support in helping keep your student(s) focused as they work through their coursework.
If your student was not in school today (Friday) then they need to communicate with all of their teachers as soon as possible to ensure they have what they need to continue their studies next week.
Please note that all Masses in the state of Colorado are cancelled. This precludes our students from selling raffle tickets after Mass in their home parishes; however, the students SHOULD continue to sell raffle tickets issued to them personally.
We know you are getting inundated with a great deal of information. We will keep you updated about important happenings with St. Mary's via e-mails, the website (smpirates.org) and social media; and we will attempt to do so as concisely as possible. Bear with us as we navigate the unique circumstances we are now confronting.
Finally, please continue to pray during this challenging time. Yesterday we suggested praying The Memorare. We will include the text of that prayer in our e-mail communications as we go forward:
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help, or sought thy intercession, was left unaided
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy, hear and answer me.
